5 Fun Things to Do This Memorial Day Weekend

Not only does Memorial Day remind us to recognize and honor those who protect and serve our country (Thank you!), but to many, it serves as the “unofficial official” kickoff to summer. With the sun shining and the birds singing, it compels us to get outdoors and enjoy fun activities such as these special Memorial Day celebrations.

  1. Brew at the Zoo, Saturday
Beer lovers won’t want to miss the 10th Anniversary of Brew at the Zoo, featuring more than 70 brews and limited wine selections. Stroll among the exhibits of more than 1,000 animals while you sample and listen to live music spread throughout Zoo Atlanta.
  2. 2018 Atlanta Jazz Festival, all weekend
The Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the largest free jazz festivals in the country and culminates this weekend at Piedmont Park with show-stopping performances. Visit the event website for specific performance times.
  3. Memorial Day River Canoe Trip at Chattahoochee Nature Center, Monday
Take advantage of your day off and enjoy a little peace and quiet with a beautiful paddle down the Chattahoochee River. A naturalist will guide you on a morning paddle and get you back just in time for those afternoon BBQs. Ages 6 and up. $35 non-member; $30 CNC member. Register by May 23.
  4. Stone Mountain Memorial Day Weekend, all weekend
Stone Mountain Park is an Atlanta favorite with attractions like SkyHike, the nation’s largest ropes course and the water adventure Geyser Towers. Over Memorial Weekend, the folks at Stone Mountain are really upping their game with an epic laser light spectacular featuring lights, music, fire cannons and over-the-top patriotic fireworks for four nights. Active duty, veterans and retired military personnel will receive one free All-Attractions Pass with valid ID and save up to 30% per person for immediate family members, as well as receive 20% off food and merchandise.
  5. Pack a picnic or BBQ at one of these 21 Best Atlanta Playgrounds.
If you’ve got younger kids, Memorial Day is the perfect time to pack up the picnic basket or load up the cooler with your favorite grillers. Get together with friends and family for a fun day out, enjoying your favorite treats with fun and games at one of Atlanta’s amazing playgrounds.
