An Atlanta Holiday Tradition: December Sports
Atlanta loves its sports, and December brings Falcons football plus two end-of-the-year traditions — the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the SEC Championship game. One of Atlanta’s newer entries to the sports scene is the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, a venue not to be missed by sports fans.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
Kickoff is scheduled for noon on New Year’s Day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game will feature two top-ranked teams from around the country. There will be a number of safety protocols in place to ensure social distancing.
SEC Football Championship
Set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the 29th annual SEC Football Championship, slated for Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. That’s when the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern and Western Division winners will meet to battle it out for the league championship and the right to represent the conference in the College Football Playoff.
The NFL’s Atlanta Falcons will continue to play their scheduled games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and fans will attend in limited capacity due to the pandemic. On tap for the season are the Dec. 6 game against the New Orleans Saints and the Dec. 20 game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Atlanta Hawks will reduce capacity ahead of the 2020-2021 season, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle. Only friends and family will be allowed entry for the first few games of the season, which begins on Dec. 22. The team’s new City Edition uniforms will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the initials “MLK” featured prominently on the jersey.
Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame extends its special exhibit honoring Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the end of the year. Titled “College Football and HBCU’s-Their Story,” this significant display features a collection of stories, artifacts and other treasures.
