Series II of Georgia's Great African Americans of Historic Distinction exhibition continues to extol the historic achievements of barrier breaking Georgians in this new collection, featuring 12 heroes of history who triumphed over the tragedies of lives lived in bondage, segregation and Jim Crow. The showcase chronicles the epic journey of a superlative group of pioneers who blazed a trail from racial oppression to the preeminence of historical and world-wide acclaim. From the first African American military fighter pilot to fly in combat in WWI; the first celebrated prize fighter who captured the world middle weight championship, to the American opera singer who performed for Queen Elizabeth and at the 200th Anniversary of the French Revolution and more, African Americans with Georgia roots have broken barriers and distinguished themselves in many, many fields of endeavor.
