Walk a Mile With a Child

On Saturday, July 30th, the National Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association are hosting the 15th annual Walk a Mile with a Child. The event is free for children and families in metro Atlanta and aims to promote physical activity in the African American community, especially among youth, and raise awareness about the growing obesity crisis in America. Nearly 60% of American children do not have healthy cardiorespiratory fitness, a key measure of physical fitness and overall health. Individuals who are overweight or obese are at greater risk for many diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and many cancers.
