Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a highly selective historically Black college that prepares women to change the world. The main campus in Atlanta is situated on 39 acres. There are approximately 2,100 students and 167 faculty members. Spelman is predominantly residential and is a member of the Atlanta University Center consortium, allowing access to Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine and the Interdenominational Theological Center. Degrees offered are bachelor of arts and bachelor of science.

In addition to the Spelman Museum of Fine Art and dramatic offerings featuring Spelman students at the Baldwin Burroughs Fine Arts Theater, area attractions include the Herndon Home, the Wren’s Nest, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, APEX Museum, Atlanta International Museum and the Margaret Mitchell House. Restaurants nearby include Big Mama’s, Paschal’s, Café Noir, Slice, No Mas Cantina and Busy Bee. Plenty of shopping can be done at Underground and local malls.
