The ATL Airport District: East Point, College Park, Hapeville and Union City

Small Town Living

When you’re traveling to Atlanta and don’t want to stray too far from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, choose a small town. The towns of East Point, College Park, Hapeville and Union City are close to Atlanta, but are, in fact, self-contained small towns.

East Point

Located six miles southeast of downtown Atlanta, East Point is a city unto itself. The heart and soul of this welcoming community is the grassy commons area in the historic downtown where you can delight in seasonal festivals and monthly farmers markets. Cycling enthusiasts will want to check out the Dick Lane Velodrome. Used as a training facility for the 1996 Olympic Games, this unique venue hosts bicycle races throughout the year. Elsewhere in East Point, the Georgia Sports Park is a green space offering natural grass fields for sports tournaments. What’s more, East Point is a favorite location choice for movie producers.

College Park

The revitalized town of College Park offers the best of Southern hospitality and boasts the fourth-largest urban historic district in Georgia with 867 structures on the National Register of Historic Places. Wander around town to discover the historical collection of homes, monuments, churches, parks, a railway station and more. College Park is home to the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park, a state-of-the-art 5,000-seat venue and the home of the Atlanta Hawks’ NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks and the three-time WNBA Eastern Conference Champion, Atlanta Dream.

Hapeville

Hapeville is a Main Street city known for its vibrant arts culture and eclectic dining experiences. Discover a sprawling park, shops and restaurants, as well as sculptures, murals and the city’s signature butterflies in the historic downtown. Perhaps most exciting is the Porsche Experience Center and Porsche Cars North American headquarters. You can hone your driving skills, view classic Porsche automobiles or dine at Restaurant 356, aptly named after the first production Porsche model.

Union City

Union City is the gateway to the South Fulton Scenic Byway. This charming bedroom community started out as a resort that attracted visitors from near and far. Today, it is an endearing city where you can play a round of golf, visit Ronald Bridges Park for family-focused fun or take a short drive to premium shopping, museums, theaters, sporting venues and more. It’s a perfect alternative to the hustle and bustle of big city life.
