Signia by Hilton Debuts Flagship Hotel in Downtown Atlanta

Hilton (NYSE: HLT) announced the highly anticipated opening of the 976-room Signia by Hilton Atlanta, marking the first new build and Georgia hotel for the Signia by Hilton brand, and Atlanta’s largest ground-up hotel development project in 40 years. Inclusive of the property’s debut, Atlanta represents Hilton’s largest market globally by number of hotels with a portfolio of 136 hotels across 13 brands welcoming travelers to the destination. In Atlanta, Hilton also has a pipeline of more than 40 hotels in various stages of design and construction.

Poised to become a signature landmark and economic catalyst on the city’s west side, Signia by Hilton Atlanta is owned by Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) and forms part of the Authority’s Championship Campus, North America’s largest combined convention, sports, and entertainment destination, which also includes Georgia World Congress Center, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Centennial Olympic Park. Built on the repurposed foundation of the Georgia Dome, the hotel features eight food and beverage experiences; a spa, beauty bar, rooftop pool and fitness center; more than 100,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including the largest hotel ballroom in Georgia; a grand outdoor event deck and lawn; and Club Signia.

“Signia by Hilton offers the world’s best meetings and events, a vibrant atmosphere, exceptional amenities and personalized service catered to the needs of today’s global traveler,” said Chris Nassetta, president and CEO, Hilton. “We are excited to introduce this brand to our extensive portfolio in Atlanta, a dynamic destination that continues to play an important role in Hilton’s growth, and are proud of the positive impact this hotel will have on the community through local job creation partnerships and incremental convention and leisure business.”

“Signia by Hilton Atlanta complements our vision for a compact and connected campus featuring a package of facilities unrivaled in any city in the United States,” said Frank Poe, executive director of Georgia World Congress Center Authority. “More importantly, it is a cornerstone of a strategy centered on aligning GWCCA with the evolving needs of its customers while putting Atlanta on the shortlist for the most prestigious live events the industry has to offer.”

“The opening of Signia by Hilton Atlanta furthers our position as one of the top meetings and conventions destinations in the country,” said William Pate, president and CEO, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The new convention center headquarter hotel allows us to meet our customers’ growing needs, bringing additional visitors to the city.”

“The addition of Signia by Hilton to the GWCCA’s portfolio of venues further strengthens its status as one of the premier destinations in the world for conventions, sports events, and entertainment,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “As Georgia prepares to welcome iconic events and continues experiencing record-breaking economic growth in the years ahead, this facility is well-positioned to remain a key economic driver for our state. Tourism and the hospitality industry remain some of the largest industries in Georgia, and today’s announcement is another reminder of the Peach State’s success in these key areas.”

Sophisticated Design

Signia by Hilton Atlanta was developed by Boston-based Drew Company, with Gensler as the architect and interior designer, and a joint venture between Skanska and SG Contracting as the general contractor. As the tallest building on the west side of Atlanta, the 42-story, 1.25 million square foot property is enveloped in wall-to-wall glass, offering panoramic views of downtown Atlanta, an inspiring and curated art collection, and inviting spaces.

All guest rooms at Signia by Hilton Atlanta offer spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views and reflect the warmth and refinement of Southern luxury, featuring a combination of earth toned-fabrics, rich wood and rattan textures, and brass finishes. The colors and materials are inspired by the building’s unique location in the city, paying homage to some of the most historically important and culturally significant neighborhoods in Atlanta. Shades of amber, deep brown, soft beige, and slate blue evoke a subtle sophistication, while black and metallic details bring an understated modern twist. Together, these design elements invite guests to celebrate the distinguished style of Southern hospitality through a timeless look that is both stylish and functional.

MLB AWARDS THE 2025 ALL-STAR GAME TO THE ATLANTA BRAVES

Truist Park to Host Midsummer Classic for the First Time; Third Time Ever in Atlanta

Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that Major League Baseball has awarded the 2025 All-Star Game Presented by Mastercard and accompanying All-Star Week events to the Atlanta Braves.  The announcement was made earlier today at the Owners’ Meetings in Arlington, Texas.  The 2025 All-Star Game will be Baseball’s 95th Midsummer Classic.

The Braves will follow the reigning World Series Champion Texas Rangers, who will host the upcoming Midsummer Classic on July 16, 2024 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.  Baseball’s 2026 Midsummer Classic will be hosted by the Philadelphia Phillies for the 250th anniversary of American independence, following suit from 1976, when Veterans Stadium hosted the All-Star Game in the year of the nation’s bicentennial.

This marks the third time that Atlanta will host the All-Star Game and it will be the first at Truist Park, the Club’s home since 2017.  Atlanta Stadium held the 1972 Midsummer Classic, in which the Braves’ Hank Aaron hit a two-run homer as part of a 4-3 National League victory.  Turner Field hosted the 2000 All-Star Game, in which Most Valuable Player Derek Jeter went 3-for-3 atop the American League lineup en route to the visiting side’s 6-3 win.

Commissioner Manfred said: “I commend Terry McGuirk, Derek Schiller, the entire Braves organization and the Atlanta Sports Council for leading this effort.  As a model of success on and off the field, the Braves deserve to host the All-Star Game. Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta will provide fans a world-class experience in 2025.  We look forward to working with the Braves and local leaders to deliver a memorable All-Star Week that brings people together and benefits the community in many ways.”

Terry McGuirk, Chairman of the Atlanta Braves, said: “We are thrilled that Major League Baseball has awarded the Atlanta Braves the 2025 All-Star Game.  Time and time again, Atlanta has proven to be a world-class destination for the most exciting entertainment and sporting events.  I am excited that baseball fans will have the opportunity to experience Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta along with all this area has to offer.  Over the coming months, we look forward to working alongside MLB to create memorable experiences that will showcase and support our community.”

ACVB Announces Citywide Sales Executive Hire and Long-Time Employee Promotion

Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) announces the hiring of Reneka Edwards and promotion of Zack Laws.

Edwards joins the organization as citywide sales executive. She will manage groups ranging from 750 rooms or more on peak. Edwards comes to ACVB with more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She previously worked as senior sales manager at Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and has also worked across various market segments in numerous cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington, D.C. and New Orleans.

Laws has been promoted to director of sales and will oversee day-to-day department operations. He will continue to manage ACVB’s efforts to secure sporting events of large-scale format in partnership with Atlanta Sports Council. Laws joined ACVB in 2010 as citywide sales manager to assist with positioning and promoting Atlanta as a premier, global destination for meetings and conventions. With more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, Laws currently sits on the board of directors for Georgia Sports and IAEE’s Southeast Chapter and also serves as the lodging and hospitality liaison for the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship host committee.

Southern Stars Shine in Premiere of MICHELIN Guide Atlanta

The first MICHELIN Guide Atlanta has been revealed, and the selection features five one-MICHELIN-Star establishments and two MICHELIN Green Star eateries. Bacchanalia brought home one of each.

The full selection, including Bib Gourmand restaurants and Recommended eateries, totals 45 restaurants. Chefs and restaurant teams were honored Tuesday night at the Rialto Center for the Arts.

“Our famously anonymous inspectors enjoyed experiencing Atlanta and its dynamic culinary landscape,” said Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “They came away impressed with the diverse offerings, as the selection of restaurants not only reflects a taste of the South, but also has a good deal of international flavor. There is so much for foodies to savor here. Whether they’re local residents or international travelers, they’re in for a treat!”

Here are the new one-MICHELIN-Star restaurants, with inspector notes from each (Inspectors’ comments in full on the MICHELIN Guide website and mobile app):

One MICHELIN Star

Atlas (American cuisine)

When the night calls for a grand celebration, few places fit quite like Atlas. Order à la carte from Chef Freddy Money’s seasonal American menu with European influences or celebrate with the tasting menu for dishes like tender lobster plated with smoked paprika butter sauce and heirloom summer squash, and poached halibut composed with a trio of beet preparations. Wagyu beef from Australia is a decadent end to the savory courses. Impressive cocktails, a cheese cart and whimsical desserts complete the well-rounded experience.

Bacchanalia (American cuisine)

Chefs/Owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison and Executive Chef Kai NaLampoon offer a multicourse prix fixe that involves a bit of flair, with some dishes arriving on carts or nestled inside glass cloches, and the cheese course is a wonderful surprise. Rather than an expected slice, the team presents a clever take with a crumbly oat date cake and a dot of black garlic sauce surrounded by rings of parmesan. Chilled lobster in a ponzu sauce with bright English peas and horseradish oil is also memorable, but it may just be the delicate grapefruit soufflé garnished with spicy pistachio crumble and rose crème anglaise that takes the cake.

Hayakawa (Japanese cuisine)

A local legend for his Japanese cuisine on Buford Highway, Chef Atsushi Hayakawa has begun a new chapter in West Midtown. The meal is a procession of small courses and hews toward the structure of kaiseki. After items such as an appetizer trio with clear fish soup, scallop sashimi with miso-mustard sauce and simmered monkfish, it’s time for sushi. The chef crafts nigiri from imported fish that needs little embellishment and is amply sized in the tradition of Hokkaido style in deference to the chef’s hometown.

Lazy Betty (Contemporary cuisine)

Chef Ron Hsu and Chef Aaron Phillips oversee a contemporary tasting menu with clever flavor combinations that highlight regional ingredients. Causa is given a Southern slant with sweet Georgia shrimp, avocado purée and potato foam infused with aji amarillo pepper, while seared Hudson Valley foie gras is sided by Granny Smith apple, sweet potato and dots of pumpkin butter. From the pre-dessert lemon sherbet with a coconut crumble to the elegant rosewater panna cotta, they impress to the end.

Mujō (Japanese cuisine)

Mujō is an intimate setting with a moody elegance. This is the domain of Chef J. Trent Harris and his skilled team who make all feel well cared for. Here, tradition has been replaced with a rollicking good time, where the always-surprising interpretation of omakase begin with an array of zensai, like a morsel of Florida cobia grilled over binchotan, dressed with a red miso sauce and some local pattypan squash. After some cooked bites, it’s time for the raw. Nigiri needs little to impress, while supplemental dishes offer the likes of Hokkaido hair crab, tosazu and mozuku.

MICHELIN Green Star

Bacchanalia (American cuisine)

Chefs own and operate Summerland Farm in Cartersville, Georgia, where they grow much of their produce and harvest eggs. They also have a composting program, and they feed chickens with vegetable scraps.

The Chastain (American cuisine)

Chef Christopher Grossman’s menu changes often, depending on what’s available from local farm partners and in his onsite regenerative-farmed garden. The Chastain recently joined Georgia Organics to help quantify local and organic food purchases. The team composts on site and also uses a compost company to reduce landfill waste. They also recycle glass and use compostable carryout containers.

Bib Gourmand

The MICHELIN Guide inspectors gave 10 restaurants the Bib Gourmand distinction, which recognizes eateries for great food at a great value: Antico Pizza Napoletana, Arepa Mia, Banshee, Bomb Biscuit Co., The Busy Bee, Estrellita, Fishmonger, Fred’s Meat & Bread, Heirloom Market BBQ and Little Bear.

MICHELIN Special Awards

In addition to the Bib Gourmand and Stars, the Guide announced four Special Awards:

24th Annual Atlanta Hospitality Hall of Fame will Induct Three New Honorees

Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) will recognize three new individuals during the 24th annual Atlanta Hospitality Hall of Fame ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 1 at The Fox Theatre. The event will honor Tracy Gates, David Marvin and Frank Poe.

“Our three new inductees have had an immeasurable impact on not only our visitors, but also those who call Atlanta home,” said William Pate, president and CEO, ACVB. “We are proud to welcome these individuals to the Atlanta Hospitality Hall of Fame and celebrate their contributions to the destination.”

Gates is owner and head chef at the iconic Busy Bee Café which was founded in Atlanta in 1947. Many of the city’s civil rights leaders were known to enjoy a meal at Busy Bee Café, and the restaurant continues to be a beloved spot among visitors and locals alike. Gates’ father passed down the restaurant to her in 1987 and she’s been expanding the Busy Bee brand every day since. Her passion for supporting the community and delivering authentic soul food was recognized when Busy Bee Café won a 2022 America’s Classics Award from the James Beard Foundation, making it the first restaurant in Atlanta to earn this accolade.

Marvin serves as chairman and founder of Legacy Ventures, the company he launched in 1994. He has grown Legacy Ventures into a best-in-class hotel management, restaurant management and development company. Marvin started his business in the heart of Atlanta’s convention and entertainment district, making significant investments to the area and turning Marietta Street into a popular destination for convention attendees, leisure travelers and residents. Headquartered in Atlanta, Legacy Ventures manages hospitality properties in five states including five hotels and 10 restaurants in Downtown.

As executive director of Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) for more than a decade, Poe is a respected and accomplished leader in the convention, hospitality and tourism industry. Under his leadership, the state-owned convention center has expanded to create more than 1 million square feet of contiguous exhibit space and has added Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and GWCCA’s new headquarter hotel Signia by Hilton Atlanta to its campus. With Poe at the helm, Atlanta has continued to attract large-scale conventions such as Big South National Qualifier, International Production and Processing Expo and International Woodworking Fair.

In addition to honoring the 2023 Hospitality Hall of Fame inductees, ACVB will present the fifth annual Spurgeon Richardson Member of the Year Award. The award honors Spurgeon Richardson, the longest-serving CEO of ACVB and his many contributions to Atlanta’s hospitality industry. This year’s winner is Sensational Baskets.

Atlanta Business Chronicle, Delta Air Lines and The Coca-Cola Company serve as presenting sponsors for this year’s Hospitality Hall of Fame. Individual tickets or tables are available for purchase at DiscoverAtlanta.com/HHOF.

MICHELIN Guide Atlanta’s Big Reveal Set For Next Month

The MICHELIN Guide Atlanta has a confirmed date and venue for its debut event.

Chefs will be invited to the Rialto Center for the Arts the evening of Oct. 24 to discover whether their restaurants have received a MICHELIN Star, Bib Gourmand or another MICHELIN Guide distinction. Attendance will be by invitation only.

“This will be a milestone occasion – for both Michelin and Atlanta,” said Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “The culinary scene in this fantastic city will now get the recognition it has long deserved. Michelin’s team of anonymous inspectors was captivated by the quality, creativity and flavor in this diverse dining scene.”

The MICHELIN Guide in North America
In July, Atlanta became the newest MICHELIN Guide destination in North America.

Michelin published its first North American Guide in 2005 for New York. Guides have also been added in Washington, D.C.; Chicago; California; Miami/Orlando/Tampa, Florida; Toronto; Vancouver; and Colorado.

About the MICHELIN Guide
Recognized globally for excellence and quality, the MICHELIN Guide offers a selection of world-class restaurants.

The MICHELIN Guide remains a reliable companion for any traveler seeking an unforgettable meal. The Guide was first published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage the development of car mobility as well as tire sales by giving practical advice to motorists. Progressively, the Guide has specialized in restaurant and hotel recommendations. Michelin’s inspectors still use the same criteria and manner of selection that were used by the inspectors in the very beginning, now applied in more than 40 destinations around the world.

The restaurant selections join the MICHELIN Guide selection of hotels, which features the most unique and exciting places to stay in Atlanta and around the world. Visit the MICHELIN Guide website, or download the free app for iOS and Android, to discover every restaurant in the selection and book an amazing hotel.

Thanks to the rigorous MICHELIN Guide selection process that is applied independently and consistently in more than 40 destinations (60+ Guides), the MICHELIN Guide has become an international benchmark in fine dining.

All restaurants in the Guide are recommended by Michelin’s anonymous inspectors, who are trained to apply the same time-tested methods used by Michelin inspectors for many decades throughout the world. This ensures a uniform, international standard of excellence. As a further guarantee of complete objectivity, Michelin inspectors pay all their bills in full, and only the quality of the cuisine is evaluated.

To fully assess the quality of a restaurant, the inspectors apply five criteria defined by Michelin: product quality; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of flavors; the voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine; and consistency over time and across the entire menu. These criteria guarantee a consistent and fair selection so a Starred restaurant has the same value regardless of whether it is in Paris, Atlanta or anywhere else in the world.
