There are hobbies … and then there are hobbies that turn into full-blown communities.
And if you love puzzles — the kind you spread across the dining table, the kind you promise yourself you’ll finish before bed — then this weekend in Atlanta might feel like finding your people.
From March 27–29, 2026, more than 1,000 puzzle lovers from across the country gather at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart for the USA Jigsaw Nationals, a three-day event dedicated to speed, strategy and the simple joy of snapping that final piece into place.
Yes, competitive puzzling is very much a thing. And it’s growing fast.
A Sport Built One Piece at a Time

Organized by the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association, this year’s national championship is the largest yet, and the pairs division filled up in just one day.
That’s a lot of people who really, really love puzzles.
Competitors will go head-to-head in three divisions: individuals, pairs and teams of four. Everyone receives the exact same puzzle, starts at the same time and races to finish first.
It sounds simple, but the speed is what surprises most people.
Top solo puzzlers can complete a 500-piece puzzle in well under an hour. Elite teams of four can finish a 1,000-piece puzzle in less than 40 minutes — a pace that feels almost impossible until you see it happen.
And yes, there champions are crowned at the end.
But winning isn’t really the point.
More Than a Competition — It’s a Community

For many participants, the Nationals feel less like a tournament and more like a reunion.
The event doubles as a puzzle convention, complete with an exhibitor hall featuring more than 40 puzzle companies, local artists selling custom designs and activities that range from relay races and puzzle sprints to collaborative builds on massive, high-piece-count puzzles.
There are seminars, state meet-ups, and even puzzle chess tournaments. Spectators are welcome and newcomers are encouraged.
In other words, whether you’re a seasoned speed puzzler or someone who just likes a quiet Sunday afternoon challenge, there’s a place for you here.
Entry badges are available for purchase, and kids younger than 10 enter for free. Check out the website for registration and details.
Why Atlanta?

The Nationals have traveled the country in recent years — from San Diego to Washington, D.C. — and now they’re landing in Atlanta, a city that knows a thing or two about bringing people together around shared passions.
And honestly, it fits.
Atlanta is a place where communities form around food, music, sports and culture — and now, apparently, puzzles, too.
So if you like puzzles — even just a little — consider this your invitation.
