Here is your guide to things to do, places to go and where to eat in Midtown Atlanta, the city’s heart of the arts. There are museums, theaters, long-time favorite Atlanta restaurants and one of the most popular parks in the city. The big question is this: “What can’t you do in Midtown Atlanta?”

Piedmont Park

Piedmont Park is one of Atlanta’s most popular green spaces. Residents and visitors alike use it to unwind or to start the day with a walk, bike ride or a run. Dog owners love the off-leash pooch parks. There’s a green market open from late March through early December. Piedmont Park is home to several popular festivals throughout the year.

Flying Biscuit Cafe

The Flying Biscuit Cafe is an Atlanta institution. If it’s a casual, anything-goes atmosphere you want, along with the promise of comfort food, then this is your spot. It should come as no surprise that, with every order, you get a big, fluffy (and delicious) Flying Biscuit biscuit.

5Church Midtown

5Church Midtown, located at Colony Square and just across the street from the High Museum of Art, is a convenient place to stop for lunch. On the menu are salads (perhaps a charred Caesar); appetizers (Sushi tots, anyone?); flatbreads (salami and honey); sandwiches (French dip); entrees (fish and chips); and, of course, dessert (gelato and sorbet).

High Museum of Art

Whether you are visiting the High Museum of Art to see a special exhibition or to roam the permanent galleries, save plenty of time because there are more than 18,000 works on display. The High Museum is part of the Woodruff Arts Center, home to both the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Alliance Theatre, where you might catch a concert or a play if you are in town at the right time.

Center for Puppetry Arts

Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts is the only such center in the United States. See award-winning puppetry performances, build and manipulate puppets in workshops and learn about the global tradition of puppetry in the center’s museum galleries. The Jim Henson Gallery features the largest collection of Henson Muppets in the world.

The Breman Museum

The Breman, Atlanta’s Jewish Museum is home to the permanent exhibition “Absence of Humanity: The Holocaust Years, 1933-1945;” a gallery dedicated to Southern Jewish history and a gallery, which presents traveling and rotating exhibitions. 

Fox Theatre

As it’s lovingly known in Atlanta, the fabulous Fox Theatre is one of the city’s treasures. Saved by the wrecking ball by a group of concerned citizens, the Fox lives on to entertain with Broadway shows, musical performances and the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival. There’s nothing quite like sitting beneath the Fox’s starry sky amid ornate gilt work, turreted ceilings and stained-glass windows. And, oh yes, prior to some performances, the audience is treated to the sounds of the Mighty Mo organ.  

Georgia Terrace and Livingston

Before or after a show at the Fox Theatre, it’s a treat to visit the historic Georgian Terrace directly across the street. Yes, it’s a hotel so you can make it your home away from home. It’s also where you’ll find the Livingston Restaurant & Bar for full meals or drinks and Edgar’s Proof & Provision, serving drinks and small plates.  

Atlantic Station

Yes, you can shop at Atlantic Station. And eat. You also can visit the Millennium Gate Museum and the Museum of Illusions. Or, you can bowl a game or three at Bowlero, where you’ll find an arcade and a sports bar. There often are free outdoor wellness classes and events such as Lunch Time Jazz and a Creator’s Market.
