Before movies, pottery was a powerful storytelling medium. In "Epics on Earthenware: How Small Pots Tell Big Stories—and Why," Dr. Nigel Spivey, senior lecturer in Classical Art & Archaeology at Cambridge, will discuss how vessels from the Indigenous Americas and ancient Greece convey complex, emotive stories rivaling any Hollywood blockbuster. Spivey, also author and presenter of How Art Made the World (2004), will explore the purpose behind these visual narratives.
The John Laszlo, M.D. Excalibur Lecture honors Dr. Laszlo’s retirement from the American Cancer Society. This event is free, open to the public, and requires registration.
