Position: Vice President, Sales
Department: Sales
Exemption Status: Exempt
Position Reports to: Executive Vice President & Chief Sales Officer
General Description
The vice president of sales is responsible for leading sales initiatives for ACVB through events, lead generation and customer engagement to increase hotel room night bookings across the city. The primary responsibility will be to ensure the sales team has the support and tools to achieve their goals and objectives.
Responsibilities (including, but are not limited to the following)
Sales Leadership
- Coordinate and monitor workflow including assigning, transferring and delegating leads, files and projects to Sales Managers and support staff
- Implement and monitor an ongoing solicitation program that is measurable
- Review all definite business and cancellations from the sales staff in a timely manner to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of data
- Monitor progress of lead generation, bookings, prospecting and solicitation calls via the company CRM
- Audit and report on the same
- Travel as needed to set-up, execute, or participate in trade shows, sales missions and events as outlined in sales division programs
- Facilitate monthly Sales Meetings with in-house and small meetings departments
Leadership
- Manage and develop a team of up to 19 members in sales to include coaching, mentoring and performance management
- Hire and train new department employees
- Track department goals and objectives
- Develop, implement and track quarterly plans and actions
- Serve as a member of the organization’s senior leadership team
- Assist with coordination and execution of sales retreats
- Operate all projects and personal expenses within the appropriate financial guidelines provided and recap/report such expenditures in a timely fashion
Community Engagement and Leadership
- Coordinate and host monthly sales leaders meeting with the major convention hotel Directors of Sales
- Attend and present at monthly hotel council meetings
- Prepare and present at quarterly incentive meetings
- Attend Connect events to engage with our members
- Attend industry and community events and present as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
The position will directly supervise the Directors of the Washington, DC and Chicago Sales area offices, all in-house sales staff, the citywide sales staff and all coordinators. The vice president of sales is responsible for the performance evaluation, professional development and day-to-day leadership of the designated direct reports.
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent technology-based skillset to include knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.) CRMs, expense reporting programs and other specific software
- Excellent strategic vision and experience driving sales
- Excellent presentation skills
- Extensive knowledge of Atlanta’s hospitality industry with an emphasis on the hotel and event facility inventory

Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree required (business, human resources or related discipline preferred)
- Minimum 10 years of sales experience required; hospitality industry preferred
- Minimum 5 years of management experience required
Additional Information
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday (early mornings, late evenings and weekend work expected occasionally as needed)
- Work Environment: Standard, temperature-controlled office environment with moderate office noise level
- During offsite meetings and events and site visits, work environment changes depending on location: hotel, restaurant, convention facilities, airplane, and related travel and event venues
- Work Location: This is a full-time on-site position located in the Atlanta office four days a week, and one remote working day a week

- Position requires significant amount of walking/standing during site visits, trade shows and related sales activity
- Position requires significant amount of driving and traveling during client visits and Familiarization (FAM) trips
- Travel: 20-50%
