Westside

The Westside is where industrial embraces art. Where home design stores and fashion houses are woven into the fabric of the district. Where the collector and the curious come to seek out great finds among the neighborhood’s many shops, galleries and museums.

Located less than a mile from Centennial Olympic Park, you will find a community deeply rooted in Atlanta heritage. This is where shunting rail cars meet late-night bars. This area of Atlanta is rich in shopping opportunities, delectable cuisine and local history. 

Founded in the 1830s during the height of railway expansion, this community is no stranger to history. Fully restored period homes and Victorian cottages fill the district and paint a picture of a different time in Atlanta’s heritage. Drive through Cascade Heights, and explore one of Atlanta’s most affluent communities. At The Herndon Home Museum, guests can tour the house of Alonzo Franklin Herndon, a former slave who became Atlanta’s first-ever Black millionaire. The Herndon Home now serves as an educational and charitable hub for Atlanta and the greater communities of Georgia. 

Take some time on your trip to visit the many quintessentially Atlantan studios and museums. Now home to the Atlanta University Center — the world’s largest association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities — the Westside honors Atlanta’s heritage and history by striving to transform communities both locally and globally. Clark Atlanta University Art Museum offers programs and exhibits focusing on African and African diaspora art. Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is the only museum in the nation emphasizing art by women of the African Diaspora.

After exploring the art scene, take a walk along the lush Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail and discover shopping and dining opportunities galore. 

Westside Provisions District is the place to go for boutique shopping or window browsing. At AtlantaMADE, local artisans create unique art pieces with an emphasis on custom work. Step into a real-life Etsy-style store at Crafted Westside, home to the city’s best locally made goods. Experience part of Atlanta’s unofficial ale trail at Monday Night Brewing, an integral part of ATL’s craft brewery scene. Or walk on down to The Busy Bee. Founded in 1947, this community mainstay is one of Atlanta’s first-ever Black, female-owned restaurants.
