Pickleball Dinked its Way into Atlanta’s Heart

Pickleball has dinked its way into Atlanta’s heart — and it looks as if it’s here to stay. From dedicated indoor facilities to quaint neighborhood courts, the city’s pickleball scene provides a variety of places to paddle-up and get in the game. 

With recent openings, improved public spaces and more in the works, it’s hard to avoid the pickleball craze. Atlanta neighborhoods are home to some of the largest indoor facilities in the state and host a wide range of players.

“Players meet people when they’re here and start forming their own groups,” says Robb Herzfeld, owner of Atlanta Pickleball Center.

The game bridges gaps between players of varying demographics under a shared passion for pickleball. As the popularity grows, so does the demand for places to play.

Owners like Herzfeld recognize the facilities as community spaces, many of which offer open sessions where players may meet people, learn and practice the game. The experience varies from court to court. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or still conquering your backhand, there’s a court in Atlanta for you. 

Atlanta Pickleball Center (APC)

Located off of Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard in West Midtown, APC houses 10 indoor and air-conditioned courts and a dedicated pro shop right on the Atlanta Beltline. The extended square footage between courts offers a uniquely comfortable play experience. APC, the first purely pickleball facility in the city, offers memberships and also is open to the public. The center hosts weekly open-play sessions where players can hit with others in their skill set. With lessons, clinics and camps, there are several opportunities to refine pickleball skills, host events or compete.

Dill Dinkers – West End

Dill Dinkers opened its first Georgia location in Atlanta’s West End. The Maryland-based indoor pickleball franchise has expanded to more than 30 locations across the United States. The West End facility is home to 11 individually fenced courts with a pro shop and event space. Dill Dinkers employs several coaches for players looking to advance their game. Members enjoy benefits and discounts across all Dill Dinkers’ locations.

Painted Pickle

Looking to spice up a classic competition? Painted Pickle is the total package with food, beverages and, yes, pickleball. Painted Pickle is a concept from Atlanta chef and CEO Justin Amick of Painted Hospitality. What Amick and his team call a “high-end pickleball compeatery” is a hybrid venue centered around friendly competition plus food and beverage. Located in Armour Yards, between Buckhead and Midtown, Painted Pickle includes eight courts, mini-golf, games and a full service bar and restaurant. The courtside food and drink menu makes for a one-of-a-kind experience. Enjoy a charcuterie board and roll from the sushi bar and a signature cocktail. Whether you’re a “picklehead “or just chasing the next fun activity, Painted Pickle scores a point.
