Solo dining is easy in Atlanta.

Solo Date Ideas for Every Personality

It was finally time. One sunny Saturday morning I picked up my keys and made my way to what would seem scary for introverts like me and exciting for extroverts; my first solo date in Atlanta.  As someone who moved to Atlanta with no knowledge of where to go and what to do in the city, I quickly realized that to break out of my shell, I would need to get out and explore, even if it was alone. The overwhelming feeling of nervousness and exclusion quickly turned into a passion and curiosity for a city that warmly welcomed this quiet Jersey girl. One solo date turned into 10 and more, and then I quickly became a go-to for people looking to get out and explore, whether by themselves or with friends. While solo dating can be daunting, I found that there are vibes for every personality. Check out the list below to find your next solo date destination.

Introverts

The Americano

As a first-time solo dater, I found hotel restaurants very approachable. There are usually others dining solo, and the hotel staff is always ready to share more recommendations on things to do. The Americano at the InterContinental Buckhead was one of my favorite solo dining experiences at a hotel restaurant. The luxurious setting makes you feel separate from the usual hotel dining experience. There are different dining experiences you can enjoy throughout the year to go along with the menu. I got to indulge in a red wine pairing that paired perfectly with the ribbed beef rigatoni.

After Eight

If you’re a sushi lover, you can have a bite at Eight Sushi Lounge before heading into the attached speakeasy lounge, After Eight. This intimate and dimly lit space is the perfect spot to enjoy a nightcap. Try a unique cocktail or have a flight of Japanese whiskey. My favorite thing about this experience was the complimentary plate of Japanese snacks I got to enjoy with my cocktail.

Kura Revolving Sushi

If you’re looking for something casual and quick with a unique experience, try Kura Revolving Sushi. It is one of my go-to restaurants to satisfy any random sushi craving I get. Delicious sushi plates rotate around the restaurant on a conveyor belt, waiting for you to grab and enjoy. As a solo diner, I am usually seated in the middle row with individual chairs. I often see other solo diners enjoying a good book or watching their phones while grabbing items from the conveyor belt. Getting your drink delivered from the Kura robot adds a special touch.

Silent Book Club

One of my favorite events is the silent reading sessions put on by ATL Silent Book Club. Three times a month, this club invites book lovers to a different location to participate in a silent reading hour before a mix-and-mingle session. This is the perfect place for introverts to get some reading done and make a friend or two after.

Palo Santo

Enjoy delicious food and better vibes at Palo Santo. (Photo Courtesy of Palo Santo)

My favorite type of solo date is when you can get multiple different experiences in one setting. At Palo Santo, you can start your night in a nicely decorated dining room with modern Mexican fare almost as Instagram-worthy as the atmosphere. After dinner, you can head up to the rooftop to enjoy a separate menu with delicious cocktails, small bites and great tunes.

El Valle

Enjoy delicious Mexican wines and a menu of Mexican bites with a blend of unique flavors at El Valle. If you’re a fan of octopus try the Pulpo a Las Brasas paired with the Luna Sagrada cocktail. This is the perfect spot to enjoy an after-work happy hour from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The bar is perfect for sitting alone. Expect to make a friend or two (including the friendly bar staff.) You might find your way back here throughout the weekend as the restaurant transforms into the ultimate after-hours stop with a DJ to keep the night alive.

The Gathering Spot

Looking for a more exclusive experience and opportunity to engage in a community of young professionals in Atlanta? Joining The Gathering Spot is one of the best things I’ve done since first moving to Atlanta. Not only have I been able to connect with new people and build professional connections, It also provides a safe space for me to get out of the house and attend events or enjoy a good meal alone. While I often go to The Gathering Spot and its many events alone, I find myself leaving with a new friend each time. From dumpling-making classes, lip sync battles and listening to a panel of prominent Atlanta figures speak about the community, there is never a time where I struggle to find something unique to do as a member. Not looking to commit to membership yet? No worries. The Gathering Spot often hosts events open to the public so keep an eye out on social media.

Yebo Beach Haus

Walking into Yebo Beach Haus, a chic neighborhood restaurant, I instantly felt like I was on vacation somewhere tropical. Who knew I would be able to try ostrich, a traditional South African dish, right here in Atlanta? This is the perfect place to indulge in one-of-a-kind cocktails and dishes right in the heart of Buckhead.

Music Lovers

Apt 4b

As soon as I walked into the upbeat Apt 4b, I knew it was going to be a vibe. Hip-hop and R&B tunes were bumping from the speaker as I dived into a delicious oxtail pasta that might be hard for me to find elsewhere. You might find yourself dancing as the DJ perfectly switches between different vinyls playing some of the best hits. You can also head down to the basement where there often are events and live music sessions perfect for a solo date night.

The James Room

One of the first places I started going solo, The James Room is my favorite place to go to on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar while a live band plays in the background during live music night on Tuesdays. If you’re looking for old-school R&B slow jams, Wednesday is Slow Jams night with tunes played by a live DJ. The James Room recently started “Off The Record” night on Sundays with a curated selection of hits by a live DJ. This intimate speakeasy is tucked behind a bookcase in the back of a cafe that is open in the mornings. Work from the cafe with its delicious matcha latte and a pastry and transition to nightlife in the lounge at 5 p.m. with a delicious espresso martini and wings.

Tesserae

Nothing beats a beautiful rooftop view in Atlanta, and Tesserae at The Thompson has one of the best. I’ve made great friends during some of my solo adventures at Tesserae. With a wonderful mixologist team and frequent events that bring out the community, it’s hard not to have a good time. Wednesday is a great place to go for Live Jazz night. Enjoy the pusha tea cocktail and the crispy chicken sliders as you take in the view and live music.

Jojos Beloved

Craft cocktails and the disco make the perfect solo date night. (Photo by Aubree Dumas)

Atlanta is bringing back old-school disco with Jojo’s Beloved’s new Roselight Room. You can make a reservation to enjoy craft cocktails at the bar or walk right into the dance floor area without a reservation. Throughout the weekend different DJs play groovy tunes as the dance floor floods with some of Atlanta’s best movers.

The Dining Enthusiast

TigerSun

A small bus wouldn’t be the first pick on where to enjoy a four-course omakase menu of cocktails. However, the moment I pulled up to TigerSun I knew I was in for an adventure. Located at the back of Muchacho, this retro-looking bus was inviting. With vintage decor and a cozy ambiance, I enjoyed a selection of drinks and small food pairings that were created to fit the theme of the movie “Karate Kid.” I loved going solo because you usually get seated next to another solo guest, and with the intimate space it’s easy to become friends.

Hayakawa

Looking to add MICHELIN-Star dining to your solo date bucket list? Hyakawa is the perfect place to splurge on a one-of-a-kind experience with a team that takes pride in hospitality and quality food. Chef Haya San takes guests on a journey of the finest fish selection in Atlanta. It is an experience that rarely found outside of Japan.

Lazy Betty

My favorite solo dates are the ones when I go to the bar, have amazing conversations with the bartender and indulge in delicious food to pair with a cocktail or two. Lazy Betty is the perfect spot for this because not only do they have top-notch bartenders, there is a special menu at the bar that makes the experience so much better.
