Puerto Ricans in Atlanta

ATLANTA CREATIVES: BORICUA PRIDE

Puerto Rico lives in Atlanta. You can hear it in the beat of the music at a festival in Piedmont Park, taste it across the city’s restaurants in dishes influenced by abuela’s sazón and see it splashed across vibrant murals that light up the Atlanta Beltline and other locations across the city.

Since the 1990s, Atlanta’s Puerto Rican community has expanded significantly, plantado bandera (planting roots) in this City in the Forest. Today, with an estimated 45,000 Boricuas calling this city home, it ranks among the top 20 in the U.S. for Puerto Rican population. But this isn’t just about numbers – it’s about corazón. Puerto Ricans bring their bold colors, big dreams and endless sazón to everything they do. They don’t just carry the island with them – they build it here.

Through art, music, entrepreneurship and community, Puerto Ricans have become a powerful, joyful force shaping Atlanta’s culture.

The 2025 National Puerto Rican Day Parade, celebrating its 68th year, is shining a special spotlight on Aguas Buenas and the vibrant Puerto Rican community in Atlanta. This iconic celebration of Puerto Rican pride is the biggest in the U.S., marching up New York’s legendary Fifth Avenue on June 8, 2025 with over one million people expected to join the party. It’s more than a parade. It’s a full-blown cultural explosion honoring Puerto Rican heritage, art, music, education and history.

This year, Atlanta’s Puerto Ricans are showing up with pride, including incredible Puerto Ricans who are making waves in the city’s arts and culture scene. From murals to music, food to comedy, these talented Boricuas are keeping la Isla del Encanto alive in the ATL, and now, they’ll proudly walk alongside the Atlanta float in the parade.
