The Atlanta Hawks relocated to Atlanta in 1968 and have been laying up good times ever since. Hawks games are played at State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta, the city’s entertainment hub. Want more reasons to go? Look no further.

Reasons to Catch a Hawks Game

NBA players from the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers compete for the ball during a game in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Current star Trae Young is known for his deep three-point shooting — earning comparisons to Stephen Curry, point guard for the Golden State Warriors, — and has quickly become the face of the franchise.
  • The team is the oldest NBA franchise in the Southeast. The Hawks trace their roots back to 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons. After stops in Moline (as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks), Milwaukee and St. Louis, they landed in Atlanta in 1968.
  • Dominique Wilkins, known as the “Human Highlight Film” and a Hawks legend, is one of the most iconic dunkers in NBA history.
  • The Hawks have strong ties to Atlanta’s hip-hop culture. Games often feature performances, collaborations and appearances from artists like Ludacris, T.I. and 2 Chainz.
  • The Hawks play in State Farm Arena, right in downtown Atlanta. The venue is known for its fan-friendly upgrades, concert-level acoustics and even courtside bar service.
  • In 1968, the Hawks became the first NBA team to hire a Black general manager, Pat Williams, showing Atlanta’s progressive influence on the game.

Things To Do at a Hawks Game

  • Witness some amazing choreography from Hawks Entertainment — whether it is the Hawks ATL Dancers or the ATL BOOM (drumline). Interact with the team mascot Harry The Hawk.
  • Hang Out at the Courtside Bar. State Farm Arena has the NBA’s first court-side bar, giving fans a chance to sip cocktails just steps from the action.
  • Check Out Killer Mike’s Barber Shop. Rapper and activist Killer Mike opened a full-service barbershop inside the arena, where you can actually get a cut during the game.
  • Enjoy Local Food Favorites. The arena serves Atlanta staples from restaurants like J.R. Crickets (wings!) and Old Lady Gang (soul food by Kandi Burruss of Xscape).
