Grant Park

Located on Atlanta’s Eastside, Grant Park is a historic district surrounding the city’s fourth-largest park. This neighborhood mixes old with new, gracefully speckled with Victorian-era cottages, historic attractions, local shops and restaurants.

Breakfast: For a morning pick-me-up, Octane Coffee Bar offers the Super Regular Drip, a high-end batch-brew drip coffee made from sustainably-sourced beans. Another local favorite, Little Tart Bakeshop, is housed inside Octane Coffee Bar and sells fresh croissants, scones, crème fraiche quiche, local fruit galettes and tarts.

Morning: More than 1,400 animals representing more than 200 species from around the world call Zoo Atlanta home. Visitors enjoy admiring the with the zoo’s two sets of twin pandas – the only set of its kind in the U.S., exploring the largest zoological collection of orangutans and getting an up-close look at amphibians and reptiles in the Scaly Slimy Spectacular experience.

Lunch: Rated best ribs by Atlanta Magazine and best BBQ in Atlanta by Creative Loafing critics’ choice, Daddy D’z BBQ Joynt is a casual southern destination that serves huge plates of barbeque and side dishes. The house specialty spare ribs along with homemade collard greens and candied yams are among the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

Afternoon: Historic Oakland Cemetery, one of Atlanta’s hidden treasures, is the final resting place for many of the city’s famous residents including Margaret Mitchell and Bobby Jones. Docents offer themed tours that delve into Atlanta’s rich history with topics like Art and Architecture of Death, Oakland and the Civil War and Love Stories of Oakland.

Dinner: Six Feet Under’s rooftop is where the neighborhood goes to sip on peach margaritas and chow down on the restaurant’s signature blackened catfish. The catfish is prepared with special spices, drizzled with remoulade and then topped with microgreens and sliced jalapenos.

Night: Grant Park’s bars are among the most laidback and casual in Atlanta. All within walking distance of each other, visitors can hang out with locals and dance all night long at popular haunts like Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, Republic Social House and Augustine’s.
