Where to Find Delicious Wings in Atlanta

College football season begins at the end of August with the Cricket MEAC-SWAC Challenge and the Aflac Kickoff game. Football and wings go together like, well, you know. Atlanta is known for its lemon pepper wings, and they are a must-try. Here are plenty of other places to wing it in in Atlanta.

American Deli
Even though J.R. Crickets made it popular, American Deli was the original home of the lemon pepper wet wings. The deli also has other unique flavors such as sweet chili and Family Gold.
Where: You’ll find the American Deli locations sprinkled throughout the metropolitan area. A convenient one on the Westside is 1715 Howell Mill Road.
The Bando

In the Westside, you can find The Bando. From the outside, it looks like a closed and abandoned building, but inside, it is decorated with classic ‘90s decor, CDs and memorabilia. The Bando serves options in addition to its famous crack wings. These include deep-fried Oreos, hot dogs and Bando Punch. Try the wings slathered in Strawberry Hot or Honey Butter.

Clay’s Sports Cafe
Clay’s Sports Cafe has unique wing flavors such as honey BBQ, garlic Parmesan and honey mustard. The small restaurant also has options for non-wing friends such as pizza and sandwiches. Though Clay’s is outside of Atlanta in Sandy Springs, it’s been listed on many top wings lists and is worth the drive.

Heirloom Market BBQ
At Heirloom Market, you can find the signature smoked wings and many other flavors. Heirloom is takeout only, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant does have a couple of tables out front.

J.R. Crickets
In Midtown, find J.R. Crickets. Made famous for its lemon pepper wet wings featured on “Atlanta,” J.R. Crickets also serves buffalo teriyaki and two different types of BBQ and offers a few food options other than wings.
Where: J.R. Crickets’ many locations make it easy to grab some wings. Here’s one that is convenient: 129 North Ave.
Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria

Next door to Twin Smokers Downtown, is Max’s, known for New York-style pizza cooked in downtown Atlanta’s only coal oven. Try the lemon and herb coal oven wings with a side of buttermilk ranch.

Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery
Local brewery Max Lager’s has food items including its signature smoked Our Way Wings, which come in flavors including lemon pepper, honey BBQ and Jr.’s Firecracker, served with Max’s coleslaw.

Nam Phuong Vietnamese Cuisine

On Buford Highway, Nam Phuong serves traditional Vietnamese food such as pho and different types of rolls, and it also serves wings. Though there is only one flavor, the wings are glazed and soaked in tangy fish sauce and are a must-try.

Sweet Auburn BBQ
At Sweet Auburn BBQ in Poncey Highlands, order smoked wings in the signature WuTang, garlic Parmesan or other tangy flavors. A menu of traditional barbecues with an Asian twist will round out the meal.

Taco Mac

Taco Mac originated in Atlanta and is a local favorite. The sports bar has many menu options, including signature wings that can arrive oven-roasted, boneless or original style. Check for limited-time specials and try flavors such as buffalo, hot honey mustard, Asian sweet heat and chili mango dry rub.
Where: Taco Mac is all around town. The original is located at 1006 North Highland Ave.
Twin Smokers BBQ

Near Mercedes-Benz Stadium Downtown, Twin Smokers offers a savory, smoked barbecue. With two different smokers (named Elizabeth and Matthew), the restaurant is able to give its smoked wings a unique taste by using a different type of wood that is used to smoke the barbecue. Check out the Wood Library at the entrance and also try the mesquite smoked brisket, charro beans and banana pudding.
