Downtown Atlanta has had many lives. If you’ve ever wandered through and wondered where all the old buildings went, that’s a story that stretches back to the Civil War and some complicated preservation history — but that’s a conversation for another day. What’s happening in South Downtown right now is exciting. A full revitalization spanning 58 buildings across 16 acres is quietly turning what used to be a clock-out-at-5 corridor into one of the more interesting pockets of the city — think new restaurants, art galleries, and co-working spaces filling in spaces that sat empty for years.
If you’re coming through Downtown to catch a match or concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, or you’re spending the day at the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, or the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, you’re already in the right neighborhood. And the good news? You don’t have to go far or spend much to eat well. Every spot on this list offers a great meal for $25 or less — and since Downtown Atlanta is one of the most walkable parts of the city, with MARTA stops woven throughout, you can easily make a full day of it without touching your car.
Chicken Shawarma at Aviva by Kameel

Kameel is an iconic figure in Atlanta—you’ll see why when you stand in line at the Mediterranean eatery at Peachtree Center Food Court. His warm presence, always with samples in hand, is the welcome you need to the city. The chicken shawarma plate at Aviva by Kameel will feed you for $16—thinly sliced chicken breast grilled with white onions and Turkish spices, plus a choice of two sides, tahini, and bread. There are plenty of vegetarian options too. You can also get it as a wrap if you are hoping to continue your stroll along Peachtree Street—truly a not-to-miss stop.
Chef’s Masala Special at Aamar Indian Cuisine
Aamar Indian Cuisine is one of those spots perfectly hidden Downtown under a parking deck right off Luckie Street. But trust us when we say, this is a truly delicious gem. Whether you’re stopping for a late lunch or dinner, we love parking ourselves at the outdoor tables and ordering one of the chef’s masala specials for $16 and a small bowl of coconut soup for $5. The special comes with a variety of proteins, from chicken and shrimp to lamb and tilapia, plus a side of rice. A great meal to close out the day after a full day of touristy stops.
Various at Municipal Market

Historic Municipal Market has been around since 1918, with the current building in operation since 1924, rebuilt after the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917—the community staple functions as both a grocery market and a food hall. Stop by at Vieux Carre Bistro for turkey wings with rice and two sides for about $15 or MattChews for an order of their hibachi fried rice with a protein (our favorite is the jerk chicken and the Hickory Maple Portobello Mushroom).
Smash burgers at Wild Leap

Just a couple of blocks from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Wild Leap opened up a spot right off Ted Turner Drive, where they offer their signature beers and cocktails along with some juicy smash burgers. Grab a double smash burger for $10 and pair it with one of their flagship beers. Enjoy it out on the patio with a nice skyline view if the weather is nice!
Beef Salad at Tyde Tate Kitchen
Tyde Tate Kitchen was already a favorite on the Westside before it opened a second location Downtown. The menu focuses on Thai comfort food—lots of the usual favorites of cheese rolls, basil fried rice, and pad thai, all under $20. Our favorite dish out of the bunch is the beef salad paired with a bowl of tom kha. The spicy chili-lime sauce on the salad brightens it all around. The family-friendly atmosphere is worth the stop in between sightseeing.
Half-and-half pie at Dolo’s Pizza
Underground Atlanta has gone from a museum and shopping mall to a thriving late-night arts and entertainment district in recent years. Now, with several art galleries and music venues, the district has been revitalized in many ways. After all that dancing, good food is needed, and that’s when you need to stop by Dolo’s Pizza. Grab a pie with a friend in Underground Atlanta for $20. A fan favorite is the Collisseum, marinara, lemongrass Impossible beef, broccoli, sweet soy, and red onion. Or you can always do a half-and-half pie for $2 more.
Bibimbap at Blossom Tree

The pedestrian-friendly Broad Street Plaza in the Fairlie-Poplar district, right near the Five Points MARTA station, features an outdoor sitting area and many restaurants along the stretch. Blossom Tree stands out for its colorful bibimbap bowls at under $15. It comes with steamed rice, carrot, cucumber, lettuce, corn, purple cabbage, and black sesame. You can pick two sides and your sauce. They have both gluten-free and vegetarian options. The menu also offers other rice dishes along with a few curries.
