One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults

Now that my son is older, it has become easier for me to travel on my own again. I love meeting friends in different cities, and I especially love playing host when friends come to visit me in Atlanta. When someone asks how to spend a perfect day here, I like to plan something that mixes great food, a little time outdoors and a few of my favorite neighborhoods. This is the kind of day I would map out when friends come to town.

Morning

Coffee and a Walk in Inman Park

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Friends walk past the iconic “Welcome to Inman Park” mural, a favorite photo spot near the Atlanta Beltline.

I like to start the morning in Inman Park, one of Atlanta’s most charming historic neighborhoods. We usually grab coffee and pastries at Little Tart Bakeshop, a local favorite known for flaky croissants and excellent coffee. After that, we take a slow walk through the neighborhood to admire the beautiful Victorian homes and leafy streets.

What makes it great: A relaxed start to the day with great coffee and one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods.

Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail

People walk, bike and skate along the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail, one of the city’s best spots for people-watching.

From Inman Park, it is an easy walk to the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail. I always bring friends here because it is one of the best ways to experience Atlanta’s energy. We stroll past murals, public art and lively patios while people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere.

What makes it great: Public art, great people watching and a lively walk through several of Atlanta’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

Midday

Lunch at Krog Street Market

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Tacos and queso from Superica at Krog Street Market make an easy, flavor-packed lunch stop along the Atlanta Beltline.

When it is time for lunch, I like to stop at Krog Street Market. The food hall has a little bit of everything, so everyone can pick what they are craving. I usually grab tacos from Superica, a sandwich from Fred’s Meat & Bread or dumplings from Gu’s Dumplings, then find a table outside when the weather is nice.

Before leaving, I always stop by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams for a sweet treat. A scoop of Brambleberry Crisp or Brown Butter Almond Brittle is the perfect little dessert before continuing the day along the Atlanta Beltline.

What makes it great: Lots of dining options and an easy place to linger and catch up with friends.

Afternoon

Atlanta Botanical Garden

Friends stop for a quick selfie among the colorful blooms at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

In the afternoon, I love bringing visitors to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Walking through the garden always feels like a peaceful break from the city. We take our time exploring the colorful seasonal displays, the tropical conservatory and the canopy walk through the trees.

What makes it great: Beautiful gardens and quiet pathways create a relaxing afternoon experience.

Shopping in Buckhead Village District

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Evening lights glow over the shops and restaurants at Buckhead Village District, a stylish spot for strolling, shopping and people-watching.

After the garden, we usually head to Buckhead Village District for a little shopping. The walkable district has a mix of stylish boutiques, national brands and great people watching. Even if we are just browsing, it is a fun place to wander with friends and pop into a few shops before dinner.

What makes it great: Beautiful storefronts, stylish boutiques and an easy place to stroll and window shop.

Evening

Dinner at The Garden Room

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Dinner at The Garden Room feels like stepping into a glamorous indoor garden filled with flowers, chandeliers and colorful lounge seating.

For dinner, I love making a reservation at The Garden Room. The restaurant feels like stepping into a glamorous indoor garden filled with flowers, lush greenery and sparkling chandeliers. It is one of those places that instantly feels like a special occasion, whether you are celebrating something or just enjoying a night out with friends.

What makes it great: A dramatic setting, beautiful cocktails and a memorable dining experience that feels uniquely Atlanta.

Drinks and Games in Midtown

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Friends toast creative cocktails and playful competition at Your 3rd Spot, a lively Midtown hangout for games, drinks and late-night fun.

If we still have energy after dinner, we sometimes head back toward Midtown for a drink and a little friendly competition. The Interlock has become a fun place to play with spots like Flight Club for high-tech darts, Puttshack for tech-driven mini-golf and the new F1 Arcade where you can jump into racing simulators. Just down the street, Painted Pickle mixes cocktails with pickleball and lawn-style games, while Your 3rd Spot offers dozens of interactive games and social experiences under one roof.

When we are ready to slow things down, we’ll grab a drink at Drawbar. The rooftop views of the Midtown skyline make it a great place to wind down and talk about everything we packed into one day.

What makes it great: Midtown packs a lot of nightlife into one walkable area, with interactive games, social bars and rooftop views that make it easy to keep the night going or wind down with a drink.

Getting Around Atlanta

One Day in Atlanta for Kid-Free Adults
Travelers come and go at a Midtown MARTA station, an easy way to explore Atlanta’s neighborhoods without worrying about traffic or parking.

When I am showing friends around the city, I usually rely on rideshare. It makes it easy to move between neighborhoods like Inman Park, Midtown and Buckhead without worrying about parking. Once we arrive somewhere like the Atlanta Beltline or Buckhead Village District, we explore on foot and take our time wandering through shops, restaurants and nearby streets.

If you prefer public transportation, MARTA is another convenient option. The rail system connects the airport with several major neighborhoods, including Midtown and Buckhead, and it can be a quick way to get around the city without dealing with traffic. For visitors spending time along the Atlanta Beltline or in neighborhoods like Inman Park, it is easy to combine MARTA with walking or a short rideshare trip to reach your next stop.
