Hyrox is more than just a race. It’s an experience. And when you book a race in another city, it expands that experience into a chance to visit new places and new adventures. I’ve now completed four races — in Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Toronto — and each one has offered something unique while also feeding my competitive spirit.

What is Hyrox?
HYROX is a global fitness race that combines running with functional workout stations. It’s designed to test overall athleticism in a high-energy, stadium-style setting. Think of it as a CrossFit competition mixed with a road race, open to all fitness levels.
This year, HYROX returns to Atlanta for the second time, taking place Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. Athletes from all over the world will descend on the city to compete, celebrate fitness and have a good time.
I got into Hyrox because I come from a sporting background and have always been drawn to competition. Hyrox gives me the perfect avenue to test my fitness in a high-energy environment.
Atlanta is home for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome fellow Hyrox athletes here. This city has such a strong fitness community — from early-morning runners and CrossFitters to yogis and weekend warriors — and it’s a place that truly celebrates movement.
When I travel for a race outside my home base, it can be a challenge to find the things I need in an unfamiliar city – where can I get the best eats, where can I get my caffeine fix, best spots for a shake-out run, a little local sightseeing and, of course, where I’ll celebrate the night after crossing the finish line.

So, since you are in my city, I’ve got you covered. Whether you’re in town just for race weekend or hanging around for a more extended stay, here are my recommendations:
On Race Day: Where to Fuel

Breakfast and Coffee Near Georgia World Congress Center
Morning light spills over Centennial Olympic Park, and with it comes the smell of fresh espresso. Within steps of the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), you’ll find your pre-race fuel in Downtown:
- Sammy’s – Equal parts neighborhood favorite and competitor’s refuge, serving the kind of breakfast that keeps you steady without weighing you down.
- Friendship Market at Signia by Hilton – A modern grab-and-go stop for coffee, pastries and snacks when you don’t want to think too hard.
- Centennial Grounds – Coffee and pastries with a side of people-watching, perfect for calming nerves before the big start.
- Spiller Park Coffee – A local legend that treats coffee like an art form.
- Café Lucia – Intimate and inviting, offering light breakfast plates in a cozy atmosphere.
- ADios Café – For the bold, try the huevos rancheros — flavorful fuel with a kick.
- Rosie’s Café – Southern portions for those who like to carb-load the old-school way.
- Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee – Drink good coffee and do good. Each cup supports Rwandan coffee farming communities with fair wages, education, healthcare and clean water.
- Hansel and Gretel Bakery Café – Choose from colorful caffeinated drinks or indulge in cute, delicious pastries.
- Bottle Cap Café – Located right outside the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola; grab a coffee and a quick sandwich or wrap before exploring.
- The Terrace Café – Cozy and close to Centennial Olympic Park, offering espresso, artful drinks and tempting waffles.

Stay Active: Atlanta on the Move
Atlanta is a city built for motion, and, as the City in the Forest, there are plenty of opportunities to work out outdoors in nature.
- Drop into Hyrox training gyms or one of the many F45 studios if you’re itching for one last workout.
- Go for a shake-out run at Centennial Olympic Park, along the Atlanta Beltline or through PATH400’s urban greenway.
- Go for a hike or a run at a nearby Must-Visit Park within 30 Minutes of Downtown. The views will not disappoint.
- Or try something different, such as aerial yoga, trampolining or even ax throwing. Atlanta likes to keep fitness playful. Find here a list of out-of-the-box fitness ideas and also some ideas for a free workout around the city.

- STATS – A sports bar with rooftop views and plenty of TVs replaying highlights.

- If your body needs to shake it off after the race, find a place to go dancing. Atlanta is the capital of hip-hop, so of course, there are plenty of places to live the hip-hop culture, but there are also dance spots with whatever kind of genre your heart is beating for. Final Word

Atlanta is truly a fitness city. No matter what neighborhood you’re in, you’ll find great gyms, active people and a shared love for movement. It’s a community that makes fitness accessible for everyone, no matter where you are in your journey.
If it’s your first Hyrox, my best advice is simple: don’t take it too seriously. Embrace the challenge, have fun and celebrate what your body can do. The first time is about the experience, not the clock. And if you find yourself hooked — like I did — there will always be another starting line waiting for you.
I’m proud to call Atlanta home and to be part of a community that has embraced the spirit of Hyrox so fully. I hope you’ll find everything you need here to make your race weekend a success. Have fun, travel safe and I’ll see you on the course.
