Morehouse School of Medicine is a fully accredited, four-year institution established to recruit and train minority and other students as physicians, biomedical scientists and public health professionals committed to the health-care needs of the underserved. Morehouse School of Medicine is a member of the largest consortium of historically black colleges and universities in the world – the Atlanta University Center (AUC). MSM was founded in 1975 as the School of Medicine at Morehouse College. In 1981, the school separated from as an independently chartered institution.<br><br>The school has a number of nationally recognized research centers and institutes, most notably the Cork Institute, Neuroscience Institute, Clinical Research Center, National Center for Primary Care, Prevention Research Center, Cardiovascular Research Institute, and the Center of Excellence on Health Disparities.<br><br>The institution confers the degrees of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences (Ph.D.) and Master of Science in Clinical Research (M.S.C.R.). With more than 900 alumni practicing in 41 states, MSM admits approximately 52 M.D. students annually from the more than 3,000 candidates who apply for the slots.
