Get out and explore
The city of Atlanta is surrounded by incredible cities and neighborhoods with their own cultures, cuisines and character to explore. Whether you’re looking to find a new go-to lunch spot or you are ready for a scenic drive, there are plenty of places around Atlanta worth checking out.
Atlanta is a welcoming, world-class destination hosting millions of visitors annually. We encourage “city smarts”—staying aware of surroundings and sticking to well-lit, populated areas. The city has invested heavily in the Atlanta Police Department’s (APD) Video Integration Center, monitoring thousands of cameras citywide, and increased police visibility in high-traffic tourism corridors.

Areas like Midtown and Downtown are popular for visitors due to high walkability and specialized security programs, such as the Ambassador Force and Midtown Blue.
Many popular areas are connected by the Atlanta Beltline, a paved, well-monitored corridor. In the downtown core, the Ambassador Force provides walking escorts. We recommend using rideshare services or MARTA when traveling longer distances late at night.
The “Tourism Corridor” is one of the most highly patrolled areas in the Southeast. The city’s Connect Atlanta initiative has integrated private and public security feeds to create a real-time safety net, significantly reducing incidents in high-traffic visitor areas.
MARTA is patrolled by a dedicated MARTA Police Force with HD cameras on all trains and stations. Visitors can use the See & Say 2.0 app to report concerns directly to MARTA police in real-time.
